Meet Steve

G'day, my name is Steve and I am the owner of The Australian Native Bee Company.

We are a family owned business that employs 100's of 1000's of workers (the bees).

I have completed a Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree and a Diploma of Agriculture with the intention to become an Agriculture teacher. I started teaching Agriculture and science on the Central Coast before getting a transfer to the North Coast where I would be closer to friends and family.

Whilst teaching Agriculture on the North Coast of NSW I discovered native bees and become infatuated instantly. I couldn't believe that we had such an amazing native insect with such incredible abilities and I needed to know more.

Further research into stingless bees showed there was a gap in content and so I developed an education program for schools as well as running a pollination service locally.

In 2008 I was both teaching and running the business with the bees and continued to do so for a few more years. As the business continued to grow I made the decision to stop teaching and work with the bees on a full time basis. It was one of the greatest decisions I have made. I love the bees and the lifestyle they bring for my family and me.

I love that I am able to utilise native bees to make farming more profitable for growers and it excites me to see the crops produced. I love educating people about our precious resource so they too can experience these amazing creatures. If you are just starting your journey with native bees be warned, they are addictive.

People say that native bees are an investment and I agree, by purchasing a native bee hive you are investing in your children and grandchildrens knowlegde and experiences of the natural world.

You are investing in the production of edible food products, both from the bees and through their efforts. But most importantly, you are investing in the health of the natural environment in your area.
